1. Works promoting the local and territorial economy
During the design of our project, respect for the environment was our priority . Throughout the work, we favored the use of natural materials as well as local and national suppliers and retailers.
2. Measures to limit energy consumption
Our dry toilets , along with our wood-fired Nordic bath , help to limit water and electricity consumption. Solar panels produce some of the energy needed for your daily needs (electrical outlets, microwave, refrigerator) during the day.
The dome was insulated with 10 cm of sheep's wool using the sarking technique. This insulation helps limit heat loss, especially since the transparent window itself is not insulated. This is one of the drawbacks of geodesic domes. The floor was also insulated.
We chose to install a heat pump to regulate the indoor temperature. This type of equipment is both more environmentally friendly and more economical than a reversible air conditioner, for example.
3. Raising awareness of environmental protection
During your stay, several facilities and awareness campaigns will allow you to adopt environmentally friendly practices :
- taps equipped with water flow restrictors;
-shower with illuminated shower head to raise awareness of water consumption;
- organic shower gel provided by ESAP Colau-Coustau in Lescar;
- a fun hourglass to limit shower time and promote water savings;
- posters reminding people of eco-friendly everyday actions;
- selective sorting with glass recycling;
- garden lights powered by solar energy.
4. Promoting the Béarn region
We are committed to promoting the Béarn region by providing you with several recommendations for local businesses and activities to discover in the surrounding area., grouped together in a digital booklet in order to limit the use of paper.
We also offer to showcase the breathtaking view of our beautiful Pyrenees with a panoramic map showing the different mountain peaks and summits , perhaps inspiring you to climb them on your next hike.
5. Preservation of biodiversity
The green spaces have been designed and landscaped to offer a relaxing and sensory experience. Numerous nectar-bearing plants promote biodiversity while beautifying the grounds. Our orchard is naturally maintained by our sheep and chickens , thus contributing to the preservation of local flora and fauna.
6. Breakfast with fresh, local products
Our breakfast consists of fresh, local produce in order to support Béarn agriculture and local businesses.
We suggest you, in particular, taste
- milk from the cows on our farm;
- pastries from a baker in the neighbouring town: Patisserie Gaspé in Igon 64;
- an apple juice from organic farming: Ste-Quitterie Orchard in Caubios-Loos 64;
- unusual jams and spreads : Francis Miot house in Uzos 64;
- Infused teas : Epice'M at the Nay market 64;
- ofCoffee roasted in Béarn: O'Gascon in Pau 64.
7. Reduce food waste
We also take care to limit our environmental impact when preparing your gourmet baskets:
- coffee filters are recycled in our vegetable garden as natural fertilizer;
- the tea leaves that were consumed and the bread that was not consumed are given to our chickens ;
- unconsumed products are reused when the cold chain allows, or consumed by us;
We pay particular attention to the fight against food waste and we raise awareness of this approach during your breakfast.
